"Love and justice and truth are the only monuments that endure... generation after generation." Rev. Meg Riley
If we are able to purchase this property our Service and Justice Program would be rooted in two hallmarks of this historic site:
Reframing the original ministry of the Vasa Children’s Home, the Fields could partner with other mission-compatible organizations to welcome the financially limited to the beauty, peace, and healing presence of the land.
In keeping with its heritage as a working farm that fed orphans and their caregivers, the Fields hopes to revive a small sustainable farm on the property’s tillable acreage. Fresh produce grown in the gardens could be delivered to a local food shelf through the Harvest to the Hungry program. Produce sold directly to guests and visitors could finance both local and global food justice initiatives. The larger community of The Fields could support, for example, the building of a well in Africa, micro-finance programs in developing countries, sustainable farming initiatives in Romanian villages through Project Harvest Hope, and "adoption" of village schools in the Khasi Hills of India. Service learning and internship programs for youth and young adults could mentor the next generation into active stewardship of our precious Earth.
